Institute of Municipal Assessors (IMA) Online Learning
Overview

The IMA online courses provide the opportunity to complete a designation-required course at the student’s own pace, from anywhere, within a specified time frame. The IMA courses allow you to take charge and better manage your own learning experience, making it easy for you to learn on your own and to adapt your studies to a busy schedule. The IMA courses are accessible using the MOODLE platform. 

Register for the course

  • Click the Register Button on the Online Learning Home page
  • Select the Course to be registered
  • Complete the required fields/information
  • Login details will be emailed to you immediately (continued access is subject to processed payments).

Access the course

  • Input the Login details in the top right corner of the Online Learning Home page.  It will open to your own Online Learning page which will display the registered course(s).
  • Click on the course you are currently completing


Grading of Course


1.   Quiz for each lesson – total of all Quizzes will account for 10% of the course grade
2.   Mid-term Assignment – will account for 30% of course grade
3.   Final Exam – will account for 60% of course grade

Lesson Quiz

  • Consists of Multiple Choice or True and False questions.
  • There will be a time limit to complete the quiz.
  • Logging out in the middle of the quiz will result in the submission of the quiz.
  • The grade/mark will be based on the ‘first’ quiz submission.
  • The quiz must be completed before accessing the subsequent lesson.

Lesson Quiz review

Note:  As the objective for online courses is self-learning, the student is encouraged to complete the “Quiz Review” before moving on to the subsequent lesson. The review enhances the candidate’s learning by providing as many quiz attempts as needed until all questions are answered correctly.

Mid-term Assignment

  • Consists of open-ended type questions
  • Answers to the Assignment must be typed directly through the MOODLE platform on the applicable Online Learning page, as well as submitted as a soft-copy of the complete assignment. Be sure to save your answers in a Word document to allow assignment work offline
  • Once you have completed the assignment and reviewed the answers, click the ‘Finish attempt’ button to send the assignment to the Teacher/Marker

Final Exam - See “About the Exam

  • Held at pre-approved Test Centres
  • Must be scheduled by the student, in line with each test centre’s availability and policies
  • Student notifies the IMA by email of exam date and location as soon as scheduled
  • The password to access the exam is sent by the IMA directly to the test centre
  • May consists of combination of True/False, Multiple Choice questions and open-ended type questions
  • 3-hour online exam
  • To be completed before the end of the student’s access to the course

Communication with the Teacher/Marker

  • Email (through ‘Message My Teacher’ block in the course)

Your online learning (Moodle) home page

You may customize your Moodle home page. Be sure to add a “Messages” block for communication with the instructor.
To add a Block:      Click Editing button  top right of page (above Blocks)
                                    Scroll to the bottom to “Add a Block” and select appropriate Block

To change your password

  • At the top right of the page, next to your name, click on the arrow, then click on “Preferences”
  • Under “User account”, select “change password”
  • Fill in the fields and click on “Save changes”
